Fifteen runners remain in contention for Saturday’s 2016 Group 3 Ladbrokes Cockram Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield Racecourse, following the release of a final field and barrier draw this afternoon.
Lee & Shannon Hope won the Cockram Stakes in 2015 with talented mare Madam Gangster, and will be offered a good chance of defending their crown on Saturday via the resuming Choose.
Posting six wins and a further three minors through eighteen career starts so far, Choose returned to racing this year for a classy win in the Cube Finance BM90 (1200m) at Moonee Valley on January 23rd.
Progressing to third in the Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes (1200m), the Starcraft mare failed to make much of an impact when eighth in the Group 3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m) but responded with a smart performance for third in the Group 3 Frances Tressady Stakes (1400m).
Allocated the ideal barrier 3, Choose has been confirmed to be partnered by exciting apprentice Ben E Thompson in the Cockram Stakes.
Don’t Doubt Mamma will make her racing return in the 2016 Cockram Stakes and will leave from barrier 9, with Luke Currie aboard.
Finishing outside the first three only a handful of times through thirteen career starts, Don’t Doubt Mamma was a strong and consistent performer for Tony McEvoy in 2015; ending her campaign with success in the Listed Lexus Hybrid Plate (1400m) and third in the Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m).
Resuming this year for success in the Group 3 The Vanity (1400m), the Not A Single Doubt mare ran second in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) before returning to winning form in the Listed Redelva Stakes (1100m) in Adelaide.
While failing to make anything of an impression in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) most recently on May 7th, Don’t Doubt Mamma has reportedly taken plenty of benefit from her time away from racing and is primed for a strong first-up run in the Ladbrokes Cockram Stakes.
Jessy Belle will have her first start for the Lindsay Park operation in the Cockram Stakes, and will leave from barrier 8 with Michael Walker in the saddle.
A standout for trainer Luke Oliver throughout her entire career so far, Jessy Belle posted a number of impressive results through the recent Winter Carnival; beginning with a tough run for third in the Listed Sunshine Coast Ascot Handicap (1200m) on April 23rd.
Running mid-pack in both the Listed Silk Stocking (1200m) and Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) the Rock Of Gibraltar mare placed third in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) before ending her campaign a credible fifth in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m).
Lindsay Park will launch a two-pronged attack after also confirming Kayjay’s Joy (barrier 15) in the 2016 Cockram Stakes field.
