A talented and capacity field of mares has been confirmed for Saturday’s Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield Racecourse; offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Vezalay is yet to be confirmed for a run as first emergency, but remains outright $3.50 in 2015 Cockram Stakes betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of Cosmic Endeavour ($4.60) and Girl Guide ($6).
Will Vezalay gain a start and win the 2015 Cockram Stakes or will one of her talented rivals find the line in the clear?
Having opened at a quote of $15, under-rated mare Griante has received huge attention from punters in Cockram Stakes betting markets who have seen her into a current quote of $8.50 to register as clear market mover. A strong and consistent performer and the stable star of trainer David Brideoake, the Good Journey mare returned this year for a credible fourth in the Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes (1200m); progressing to success in the Group 3 Wenona Girl Quality (1200m) and third in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) before a close second in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m). While unable to figure when ninth in the Listed Regal Roller Stakes (1200m) first-up this time, Griante is sure to have taken huge benefit from the run and is worth consideration for a Cockram Stakes bet.
Godolphin runner Hazard will retire into a career as a broodmare following her Spring Carnival campaign, and while charged with overcoming the outside barrier, is sure to be given a great ride form Ben Melham and represents great value for a competitive performance in the Cockram Stakes. Undoubtedly finding career-best form upon resuming this year, the Flying Spur mare won a pair of minor sprints before taking out each of the Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) and Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1350m) before boxing on for a credible seventh despite less-than ideal conditions in in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) on June 20th.
Cosmic Endeavour ($4.60)
Two-time Group 1 champion Cosmic Endeavour is sure to lay a great account for herself first-up in the Cockram Stakes but may require a couple of runs to find peak condition this time. Capping an impressive 2014 campaign with success in the Tatt’s Tiara, the Northern Meteor mare returned this year for fourth in the Group 3 Triscay Stakes (1400m); progressing to second in the Group 3 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) before taking out the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) on March 7th.
