August 28th, 2014

Having returned to racing in scintillating form this time in, classy mare Gregers has opened as and maintained status as outright favourite for success in the 2014 Cockram Stakes, currently available at odds of $2.70 with Ladbrokes.com.au.

A typically strong and consistent performer over the 2014 Autumn Carnival, Gregers finished fourth and within two lengths of the world’s leading sprinter Lankan Rupee in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) first-up on February 22nd, before finishing a close second in Anatina in the Listed MSS Security Stakes (1100m) just two weeks later.

Unlucky to again finish just outside the places in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) on March 21st, the Commands mare displayed a keen turn of foot to overcome poor running position and finish third in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Classic (1200m); returning to the paddock after finishing fourth in the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m).

Winning the Australian Defence Force Handicap (1100m) with complete ease on August 16th, another impressive campaign appears on the cards for Gregers through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, who is more than a chance of justifying favouritism in the Cockram Stakes.

Also performing to a high standard over the 2014 Autumn, trainer Peter Moody has confirmed A Time For Julia will return to racing in the 2014 Cockram Stakes, and arguably offers punters the best value for success at current $5 odds to win, or $2 to run a place.

Securing a commendable total of four wins and four places from just 12 competitive race starts so far, A Time For Julia won the Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) first-up on February 8th before finishing second to champion mare Red Tracer in the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) on March 1st.

Returning to the winner’s circle in the Group 3 Roy Higgins Tribute (1200m) on March 15th, the Redoute’s Choice mare produced a particularly good performance to finish fourth in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) just one week later; finishing seventh in the Robert Sangster last time out.

Allocated the central barrier 7, A Time For Julia is a proven first-up performer and is well and truly worth consideration for a 2014 Cockram Stakes betting play.

Confirmed to make her first appearance competitively in close to a year, Commanding Jewel has impressed over two barrier trials in August and is a great chance of returning a winner in the Cockram Stakes.

Offered a good chance of success from the ideal barrier 1, Commanding Jewel suffered an unfortunate run of injuries following a strong victory in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) last year, and is one of only two runners (Dear Demi being the other) to have a taken out a Group 1 race previously.
