Arguably hitting career-best form so far over her autumn campaign, trainer Peter Moody has confirmed A Time For Julia in the final field for the 2014 Cockram Stakes.

Contesting a commendable total of four wins and four minor places from just 13 competitive race starts so far, A Time For Julia secured an exceptional victory in the Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) first-up on February 8th before finishing second to Group 1 champion Red Tracer in the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1200m) on March 1st.

Returning to the winner’s circle in the Group 3 Roy Higgins Tribute (1200m) just a fortnight later, the Redoute’s Choice mare ran on to finish a credible fourth in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) on March 22nd; returning to the paddock after a luckless run for seventh in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Classic (1200m).

Pleased with the way his mare has returned to work, Moody is confident jockey Luke Nolen will get the best from A Time For Julia in the Cockram Stakes, who will leave from the central barrier 7.

Also confirmed for a return to racing in the 2014 Cockram Stakes in Group 1 winner Commanding Jewel.

A standout performer in securing four wins and two minor places from just seven competitive starts so far, Commanding Jewel has not been seen at the race since winning the 2013 edition of the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) on September 7th; hurting a tendon in training before suffering a severe foot injury in the lead-up to the 2014 Autumn Carnival.

A proven performer in black type events through spring, the Commands mare won each of her first two starts in the spring of 2012 before finishing second in the Group 3 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m), third in the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1610m) and breaking through for a maiden victory at the highest level of Australian racing in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) on October 17th.

Allocated the ideal barrier 1, Commanding Jewel will be partnered by renowned jockey Damien Oliver, and is reportedly in great condition following two strong barrier trials.

Charging home to win the Australian Defence Force Handicap (1100m) by close to four lengths upon returning to the track on August 16th, trainer David Hayes has confirmed consistent mare Gregers in the final field for the 2014 Cockram Stakes.

Performing to a high standard through autumn despite being unable to break through for a race win, Gregers finished within two lengths of the world’s leading sprinter Lankan Rupee in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) first-up on February 22nd and finished second in the Listed MSS Security Stakes (1100m) just two weeks later.

Again finishing just outside the places in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) on March 21st, the Commands mare overcame poor position to finish third in the Robert Sangster Classic, returning to the spelling paddock after finishing fourth in the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m).

Likely to target the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) in November this time in, Gregers has been confirmed to be partnered by leading jockey Craig Williams and will leave from barrier 8.
