Mornington-based trainer Jason Warren saw his young training career take a surge when his outsider entrant in the $125,000 Group Three Cockram Stakes (1200m) claimed full honours on Saturday.
The race saw 16 mares form the final field with three emergencies, one of which was the Warren-trained Rhythm In Paris – which proved to punters at Sportsbet it pays to go against the odds.
After two late scratchings the Bianconi mare got her first start in a Black listed event, and didn’t waste the opportunity beating 15 top quality females.
The lightly-raced five-year-old also delivered her trainer his first win at Melbourne’s Caulfield Racecourse, rewarding him after the hard work he’s focused on Rhythm In Paris. The mare has been struck with a couple of crucial injuries in the past, starting just six time but claiming four wins.
Rhythm In Paris could certainly be an underdog for the spring racing action coming up, and proved she can provide for those risky punters who selected her at SportsBet.
Response was one early favourite and started strong from barrier one by taking the lead. However the four-year-old could not maintain speed down the final straight and finished second by a length-and-a-quarter.
Pre race favourite Lady Lynette ran well, but did not payout to her loyal punters at SportsBet after finishing a further nose back in third.
Next up for the surprise winner Rhythm In Paris will be a jump in the $200,000 Group Two Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) on September 4, so make sure to follow the underdog with SportsBet to see your money go far.
Also taking place at Caulfield on Saturday was the $200,000 Group Two JJ Liston Stakes (1400m) which saw a superb win by Shoot Out over a quality field.
